Last week we co-hosted out first event with IndieHackers Auckland, and the theme for our inaugural event was looking at the tech start up scene in Auckland. Over pizza and beer we had some great speakers sharing insights and stories. We’ll be sharing this content and some videos from the event soon *

It was fitting the event was hosted by GridAKL which is a shared working space frequented by freelancers and budding entrepreneurs.

Our friend Fayssal Loussaief from FLF Product Design presented (and MC’d) the event and we had Stan von Workum from Kunekt, Sam Kamani from ProductDone and in between Nikki and I spoke on some considerations around recruiting for startup businesses.

Reflecting on the event I really took to heart the fertile ground for collaboration in the local creative and tech scene. Bringing together people from vastly different backgrounds but with so much in common, we’ve identified that Auckland is in fact a place with some real advantages for a tech startup (more on that later!)

Often the cliche stereotype of creative and tech types are that of shy/ insular individuals who prefer to network and meet people online, (not true!) For those that are we must encourage you to coming along to events and meetups as this is where the magic happens: the opportunity to share stories, bounce some ideas around, challenge the status quo and meet new faces and basically connect with YOUR community in a safe like-minded environment.

We’re really excited about sharing content of this meet up soon and get some details on the next event – stay tuned!
