How do you unwind after a busy day? By Monday morning are you totally relaxed and ready for the week or do you feel you’ve carried on at the same pace over the weekend?
This morning I caught this article and realised I am guilty of over managing my leisure time to some extent – in an effort to cram as much leisure into my weekend as possible I find myself writing lists and keep to a schedule - which is kind of missing the point!
Obviously with our busy lives, household chores, kids, and other commitments - you can't always go totally 'free range' but this article suggests some slight tweaks you can make in your life to possible make that time a lot more fun, relaxed and leaving some room for spontaneity.
Maybe it also might be good to have a ‘digital vacation’ for a few hours and turn off the email alerts, or switch of the device (an almost horrific thought for those of us connected to the umbilical cord!)
I’m not saying we need to go full Tom Hanks in ‘Cast Away’ but some time away from the schedule on the weekends/ evenings looks like it might be time well spent.
I’d love to hear your thoughts - and feel free to share any tips that work for you!
“We consistently find that leisure, once scheduled, becomes more like work,” explains study co-author Selin Malkoc, an associate professor of marketing at Washington University. “As a result, people become less excited and even resentful towards such scheduled leisure. Maybe more importantly, they also enjoy scheduled leisure significantly less than unscheduled leisure.”
