The Salties was up early today, ready to give back to the society with our quarterly CSR volunteering session with Willing Hearts.

Just a little background, Willing Hearts is a remarkable enterprise wholly run by volunteers, apart from a handful of dedicated core staff. It operates a soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes about 5,000 daily meals to over 40 locations island wide, 365 days a year. Beneficiaries include the elderly, the disabled, low income families, children from single parent families or otherwise poverty stricken families, and migrant workers in Singapore.

We started off in the morning around 6:30am, with everyone excited to be part of the soup kitchen crew. Even our Director, Sam Baxendale was here to join us from Malaysia!

The Soup Kitchen crew was really friendly, whom guided us to our work stations and distributed the roles to us.

Sam was involved in cooking cabbages, got himself the nickname of Gordon Cabbage Ramsay. He polished his cabbage cooking skills in the meantime and will include cabbage into one of his main courses in future dinners.

Everyone played a part to make this possible. Our team was involved in duties such as scooping the rice, vegetables, fish, seafood into a wholesome meal for the beneficiaries lunch box. We were also helping through unloading vegetables, clearing empty boxes.

We were delighted to be part of this experience as a team, to know that we were part of the team helping to pack meals for those in need across Singapore. We would all love to be part of this amazing experience again!
