I recently had the absolute pleasure of meeting with a number of both current and new customers over in Perth. I always enjoy heading to other cities to meet with clients and candidates as this provides us with a complete picture of the Australian digital landscape.

On my latest trip to Perth I took away a number of interesting findings:

Bring something new to the table:

Our WA based clients love to hear from us as we can bring them something different. Not only are we specialists within the digital realm, but we can bring them talent from the eastern seaboard and beyond. Perth is a relatively small city and the talent pool is certainly smaller than Melbourne or Sydney. Our clients are all highly networked and didn’t just want the same old candidates recycled to them, however they were happy to hear about our global candidates who were looking to relocate to WA for either contract or permanent assignments. For me this shows the true value of having an awesome community of talent.

Game changers:

As mentioned in one of my previous posts the employment landscape is changing in Perth. The big traditional hirers are investing more in digital products and there is a thriving start-up and creative community delivering some awesome results. I was fortunate enough to meet with companies who are positively impacting local communities, by disrupting their traditional marketplaces. I spoke to business leaders who are hungry for exceptional candidates with “new” skills across blockchain development, functional programming, machine learning, 3D animation and A.I.
