Let’s face it, being positive all the time and keeping a happy chirpy attitude can sometimes be hard work, especially if you’re someone like me who wears their heart on their sleeve. Masking my mood takes a lot of effort, and if I’m in a bad mood – boy you’ll know it!

However last week it hit me as to why one should always try to keep positive at work and I should try harder in masking my moods. The week was a little bit of a rollercoaster ride for me with more negatives than positives. I must admit - I threw a hissy fit, marched around angrily, whined more than I should have, was a diva and overall negative about everything. No good vibes were coming out of me, that’s for sure.

I then remembered what one of the managers had said just a few weeks back during a team meeting – it’s important to respect your colleagues and be positive at work as positive energy is key in creating a harmonious workplace. That was it – it suddenly hit me that I was being disrespectful to my colleagues. Who gave me the right to rain on their parade, I was being selfish by putting my emotions and own self first and being disruptive in the office environment with all my whining.

I can’t undo my actions of the previous week, but I can remember that in a work environment, keeping a positive attitude is key and an imperative as it not only minimises workplace friction, it also makes it a more conducive work environment.

We should treat others the way we want to be treated, and at the end of the day it all boils down to RESPECT. I’ll learn to manage by bad days by taking a walk, clearing my head, indulging in an express manicure session if I must ;)

Whatever it takes to ensure I exude good vibes only!
