Working in recruitment, I can find myself dashing from a meeting with a new start-up, to seeing a candidate who’s about to get their dream role, to a catch-up with my team. The job keeps you on your toes.

But for many city workers, this isn't so. Their day may consist of sitting on the train, sitting in the office, then sitting on the train home again. Which recent health studies have indicated can have a negative impact on your health.

That's because we're designed to move. Inactivity can contribute to a range of health problems, from weight gain through to diabetes. So much so that sitting has been even dubbed the new smoking in terms of the potential cost to your health.

A big portion of a typical recruiter's day can be taken up with screening candidates, searching for CVs and making business development calls to new clients. Traditionally this has meant lots of sitting.

Working in digital recruitment I've seen first-hand how innovative organisations design workplaces that encourage their employees to flourish.

With this in mind, we've installed a number of standing desks in our office. After all, a healthy employee is a productive employee.

Let's give a standing ovation to keeping active during our working day!
