I chuckle to myself because I refer to a term coined many years ago being “the recruitment gods”.  Let me explain.  Some days I’m just not sure what surprises the day shall reveal.  All in jest of course but the recruitment gods may shine on you one day and hail down the next or throw some client, candidate curveball right at me – just to keep me on my toes.

Would you believe, I actually know a recruiter who has a recruitment wand! You know who you are, keep up the magic, we love it.

A good example is recently a key client interviewed a candidate of mine for a role but it simply wasn’t a match.  But the candidate fits elsewhere in the business.  Fast forward a couple of weeks and that candidate has signed on the dotted line for a package that far exceeded her or her family's expectations.  I assure you, I heard tears of joy.  Didn’t see that coming but it happened and the recruitment gods were shining down on me.  On the flip side and with a different client this time.  A candidate has interviewed several times, provided references and the process could not be any more textbook.  The client loves the candidate and as far as I know, the candidate LOVES the client but for some unknown reason, the candidate has completely disappeared?  Damn those recruitment gods, not in a good mood today?  That story is yet to be completed but seriously, maybe there is such a thing as the recruitment gods!

You see, having fun in the workplace is what keeps things interesting.  Hence the recruitment gods, magic wands and collaborative collection of eclectic personalities and the much needed (often well timed) banter that keeps our workplaces and industry vibrant and full of energy.  You have to be able to laugh at yourself and in good taste, laugh at others.

Does this resonate with you?  Do you have a “lighter side” to your business or profession?

I would love to hear about it.
