The Oscars, also known as Academy Awards, are supposed to be awarded for outstanding cinematographic performance. Simply put, awesome movies deserve an Oscar.
However in recent years, it's been noticed that there is another factor which is often important to win the golden trophy - an excellent marketing campaign. Such campaigns involve purchasing print and digital ads, organising extravagant parties and sending screeners to the voting jury. The efforts put into these campaigns equal those made for any White House run.
It's no surprise, therefore, that Leonardo di Caprio who has been fighting for years to win an Oscar, follows every single marketing strategy possible. As Oscar prognosticator Tom O'Neil puts it:
"Leo is a notoriously press-shy and withdrawn star—but he's been working this system like a Bronx politico," O'Neil observes.
